Timeline:

Day 1:
  • Discuss assignment.
  • Students choose partners/ Teacher pairs groups of partners.
  • Groups choose cities.
  • Teacher demonstrates how to set up wikispace for assignment.
  • Groups set up wiki with username/password.

Day 2:
  • Each student chooses a topic relating to city as their focus (weather, food, history, tourism).
  • Students begin researching city online and taking notes for future use.
  • Teacher demonstrates how to use citationmachine.net for students to use when citing sources to avoid plagarism.
  • Discuss podcast assignment.

Day 3-5:
  • Students gather sources, take notes, create podcast scripts and record video podcasts using flipcam.

Day 6:
  • Discuss creating an itinerary.
  • With groups, students research tourist sites and create hypothetical itinearies for a trip to their city.

Day 7-8:
  • Discuss creating a trip budget.
  • Teacher demonstrates how to use Excel.
  • Groups research costs for flights, hotels. rental cars, food, and tourist attractions before creating a budget for their trip.

Day 9:
  • Discuss blogging and the dangers associated with online journaling. (password protection, personal information, etc)
  • Each student writes a blog entry about one day of their "trip" using www.blogger.com

Day 10-12:
  • Discuss wikipage assignment.
  • Students continue researching info about their cities to use when creating their travel website (wiki).
  • Students must upload pictures, videos, files, podcasts, etc. to wiki.

Day 13:
  • Travel Agency Day: The classroom will be turned into a travel agency and groups will present their projects.
